Organizing Myths

This is a Shame and Judgement-Free Zone

If you are obsessed with The Home Edit or Marie Kondo, you know you want your space to look and feel tidy. However, the entertainment industry has had a heyday with the organizing and interiors industry (thanks for nothing, HGTV!) and many myths around organizing have materialized as a result.

Today, we're busting the myths about professional organizing so that you can move forward confidently. You are one step closer to a home that brings you joy!

The Space

"I'm going to be judged on my messy home."

We've had the honor of being in many homes that could be labeled as messy (we prefer the term "busy"), and we don't mind the clutter. That's why we are here! Seeing your home in its normal state allows us to know how to best serve you and help you get things organized when designing.

"You guys are just going to clean my house, and it's not going to be oragnized."

We love a squeaky clean home, but we are not house cleaners. If you are in need of cleaners, you'll get access to our hand-picked list of qualified vendors. Those cleaners might need to visit your home before or after our design work begins. No big deal — it's all part of the process. Rest assured, when we are done with the designs, everything will have a spot, and your home will be as clean as it was when we entered.

The Stuff

"You're going to make me get rid of all of my stuff."

While we applaud minimalism, we also know it isn't practical for most families — ours included. There is no shame in having belongings, collections, or keepsakes. Our job is to help give each item a designated space so that you know you have it and can find it when you need it, and to make sure it is cohesive with the rest of the designs.

"Everything needs to be labeled and placed into a bin."

Fortunately for you, we create a curated list of recommended products for your home and get your approval before ordering. Not everything will need to be in a bin, and we most definitely will refrain from labeling everything to keep your home from looking like a Big Box Store.

The Process

"It’s like HGTV: You leave for the day and come back to a completely transformed home."

If only! Yes, we do the laborious work of decluttering, sorting, and creating systems, but we still need your input to get the most out of working with us. Install day can be an all-day process, and lots of items will be coming in and out of your home, as well as people. Whether you're there or not, we will make sure to get the job done, and we won't leave until you've seen your transformed space, and it has your stamp of approval on it!

After we've set up your space, we know that you may make some changes to it, but give it a chance to grow on you. As humans, we don't accept change very well, but giving it a chance to sit for a moment, and get used to it can help with this. If after a while you don't like where something is, give us a call and we can make receommendations on where we think it might work better.
